Frequently asked questions

Got a question that isn't covered? Email [email protected] and we'll reply within a day.

Q.01

How do I install Send to Case?

+

Visit the Chrome Web Store, click 'Add to Chrome', confirm the installation when prompted, and the Send to Case icon will appear in your browser toolbar.

Q.02

How do I connect to Clio?

+

Click the Send to Case icon in your browser toolbar, click 'Connect to Clio', you'll be redirected to Clio's login page where you enter your credentials (we never see your password), then grant Send to Case permission to access your Clio account.

Q.03

Is there a file size limit?

+

Send to Case supports files up to 5GB in size, which is Clio's maximum file size limit. For best performance, we recommend uploading files under 100MB when possible. Zip archives have their own ceiling: 25 GB for a zip from your computer, and 25 GB or 10 GB for a zip from a link, depending on whether the site reports the size up front.

Q.04

Can I paste a screenshot into Send to Case?

+

Yes. Copy a screenshot, click the Send to Case icon, and press Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on a Mac) on the Upload tab, where you drop or browse for files. You need to be connected to Clio first. The image is staged for upload and named with the date and time you pasted it, and you can rename it before sending. If your cursor is in a text box, the paste goes to the text box instead.

Q.05

Can I upload multiple files at once?

+

Yes! Send to Case supports batch uploads via page scanning (right-click to find all downloadable files), zip extraction (upload a ZIP and contents are extracted individually), and drag and drop (select multiple files and drag them into the extension popup).

Q.06

What browsers are supported?

+

Send to Case is currently available for Google Chrome on desktop (Windows, Mac, Linux). We're considering support for other Chromium-based browsers (Edge, Brave) in the future. Mobile browsers are not supported.

Q.07

What if Send to Case doesn't detect my download link?

+

You can right-click any download link and select 'Send to Clio' from the context menu. For direct file links the upload starts immediately. For JavaScript-based links common on court portals, evidence systems, and case management platforms, a confirmation window opens — pick the matter, then click the download link in the original tab and the file is captured and uploaded automatically. Check 'Keep capturing' to send several files from the same page to the same matter.

Troubleshooting

When things go sideways

Quick fixes for the issues we see most often.

T.01

My upload is stuck or failing

  1. Check your internet connection
  2. Make sure you're still logged into Clio (try opening Clio in a new tab)
  3. Click "Retry" if the option is available
  4. If the file is very large, try again with a smaller file first
  5. Disconnect and reconnect your Clio account
  6. Restart Chrome
T.02

I can't connect to Clio

  1. Make sure you have an active Clio account
  2. Check that you're using the correct Clio login credentials
  3. Disable any VPN or proxy that might block the connection
  4. Check if Clio is experiencing any outages at status.clio.com
  5. Try logging into Clio directly at app.clio.com first
  6. Clear Chrome's cache and cookies, then try again
T.03

I don't see my matters

  • Search query: Try searching by matter name or client name.
  • Permissions: Make sure your Clio account has access to the matters you're looking for.
  • Recently created: New matters may take a moment to appear in search results.
  • Token expired: Disconnect and reconnect your Clio account to refresh your access.
T.04

The extension icon is grayed out

This means the extension isn't active on the current page. Try:

  • Clicking the icon anyway — it should still open the popup.
  • Navigating to a different page.
  • Making sure you're on a regular webpage (not Chrome's settings or new tab page).
T.05

How do I check if the extension is working?

  1. Click the Send to Case icon in your toolbar
  2. You should see either "Connect to Clio" or the file picker screen
  3. If connected, try searching for a matter — results should appear
  4. Check Chrome's extension page (chrome://extensions) to ensure Send to Case is enabled

Page scan says "No downloadable files found"

First, try right-clicking the document's download link and selecting "Send to Clio" — this works even on links the scanner doesn't recognize as files, which is the most common reason a scan comes back empty.

If the item isn't a real link (nothing happens when you right-click), use the fallback that works on every site: download the file to your computer, then click the Send to Case icon in your toolbar and use "browse files" (or drag the file in) to upload it to the matter.

Still stuck on a specific site? Email [email protected] with the site's name — we prioritize scanner coverage from these reports.
